Parent Visa

Parent visas are part of the family migration scheme and there are 3 main categories:

• Working Aged Parent: This visa is applicable to a person living outside Australia who is not old enough to be granted an Australian aged pension.
• Aged Parent: This visa is applicable to a person living in or outside Australia, who is old enough to be granted an Australian aged pension and meets the balance of family test.
• Contributory Parent: A parent can apply for either a permanent or temporary visa in this category. The temporary visa is valid for 2 years and provides access to Medicare and full work rights. A temporary Contributory Parent or Aged Parent visa cannot be extended or renewed, however the corresponding permanent visa can be sought, whilst the temporary visa is valid.
